Yankton Police Participate in National Child Safety Event
Annually, over 800,000 children are reported as missing - one in every 40 seconds. To help prevent this from happening to children in the Yankton region, the Yankton Police Department will be fingerprinting children, collecting DNA samples and making ID cards for any child (6 months and over) on Tuesday, Aug. 5. The collected information will be given to the parents for safekeeping.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the south picnic shelter at Memorial Park in Yankton. In addition to the National Child Identification Program, the Yankton Police Department will have a computer set up to teach parents Internet safety and how to search your computer for inappropriate sites your child may have browsed. In addition to the Yankton Police Department, the event is being sponsored by Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Hy-Vee of Yankton, Yankton Parks and Recreation and the Riverboat Days Committee.
Participating children will receive a free Memorial Park pool pass for the day, healthy snacks, giveaways, stickers and cop cards. There will also be large inflatable activities for the kids to enjoy near the picnic shelter.
