Comprehensive, state-of-the-art spiritual care practiced with clinical competency and in partnership with ecumenical faith congregations is a vital component of Avera Sacred Heart Hospital's continuum of total care.

Chaplain Hours

• Monday through Friday
  7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday and Sunday
  8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In addition, Chaplains are available at all times for crisis care. Chaplains can be contacted through your nurse or by calling the operator.

Chapel Hours

A Chapel, located on the first floor of the hospital, is available for personal use 24 hours a day. Another Chapel is located adjacent to the Gathering Place at Avera Sister James Care Center, is also available 24 hours a day for personal use.

Catholic Mass

• Avera Sister James Care Center
  Sunday through Friday at 10:30 a.m.
• Avera Yankton Care Center
  Saturday at 4:00 p.m./Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
• Avera Sacred Heart Hospital
  2nd and 4th Saturdays at 10:30 a.m.

Avera CPE

Avera CPE is accredited by the Association for Clinical pastoral Education, Inc., extending the ACPE mission "to foster experience-based theological education which combines the practice of pastoral care with qualified supervision and peer group reflection and which is grounded in a person-centered approach to religious ministry."

Chaplain Interns are trained and integrated into the Spiritual Care continuum via extended CPE units.

Pastoral Care Team

The Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Avera Yankton Care Center and Avera Sister James Care Center is comprised of a staff of 4 full-time Chaplains, 3 part-time Chaplains, complemented by CPE Interns and more than 100 Pastoral Care Volunteers.
