Avera St. Luke's Cancer Care Center is a radiation therapy treatment center with a staff that includes a full-time radiation oncologist, a physicist, a certified medical dosimetrist, radiation therapists, registered nurses and radiologic technologists. A medical oncologist is on staff with Avera St. Luke’s and is located in the same building as our Cancer Care Center.
Latest Treatment Technology
Our center is equipped with the latest radiation therapy treatment technology. The Varian 21EX Platinum linear accelerator is a 9-foot tall machine that can perform not only conventional radiation therapy, but specialized treatment such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). Computer-generated images are used to plan and then deliver tightly-focused radiation beams to cancerous tumors while preserving healthy tissues.
